ALAN TILBURY FRCA FSDC
Designer and Furniture Maker
I enjoy the pleasure and challenge of working with clients; discussing and exploring a brief, and developing a design to specific requirements, a unique design resulting from collaboration. I try to achieve designs with visual and physical comfort, easily understood clearly expressing their function and structure. Most designs are made from solid or laminated hardwoods, the choice often dictated by characteristics of size, strength, durability, colour, grain and being available, wherever possible, from confirmed sustainable sources. High quality making and finishing feature in all my work.
I work to commission, speculatively and batch produce small wood products for galleries and shops. My furniture commissions are mostly for private clients and public authorities.
I have been awarded five Guildmarks for Design and Craftmanship by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers and have twice won their annual Claxton Stevens Prize awarded to the design selected from the Guildmark pieces each year.
