DAVID J. AULD  M.A.Oxon.

Painter

Hills, valleys, houses, barns, trees - all are part of my inspiration as an artist trying to paint the landscape and the buildings which sit within it.  My fascination with the landscape is not new; my childhood was pre-television and I spent my free time out of doors in the fields and villages around my home in Leicestershire.  After a degree in Geography I taught in East Africa, with V.S.O. and then briefly in London before following a much longer career in Town and Country Planning.

Now I paint what I used to understand, trying to capture the wonderful variety of landscape and built form both close to home in Wiltshire and further afield in places such as Scotland, France and Italy. I have painted mainly in watercolour, which is a wonderful medium for capturing the subtle changes of colour, light and form which make each scene different.  I do not try for total precision but rather for an evocative representation which is my personal statement and hopefully impacts favourably on the viewer. More recently I have been developing my mixed media techniques, hopefully giving more vitality to my imagery.

My work has been exhibited widely over the last 10 years, from Bristol in the west to Newbury in the east, with sales in most of those locations.  Currently my work is showing in the Handel House Gallery in Devizes.
