Designer and Maker

I originally trained as a painter, before studying Ceramics at the Royal College of Art, where I was awarded a Travelling Scholarship.

I then worked as a designer for Royal Worcester, following this I was instrumental in setting up the Kilkenny Design Workshops in Ireland where I lived and worked for several years.

On my return to England I combined lecturing in a series of Art Schools with that of making my own work in my studio in London until I was appointed Principal Lecturer at the Central School of Art & Design.

My training as a painter, designer and maker has been the driving force that fuels a long standing personal interest in which I can explore ideas. The roots of my interest lies in the fundamental relationships that occur in the natural world coupled with the natural qualities found in a variety of materials. The union of these contrasting elements remind oneself of the importance and stabilising effect nature can have on our lives. Each piece is a fusion of observations transposed and metamorphosised into and onto every day objects that can be placed in a utilitarian space be it personal or public.

Whilst my work primarily focuses on personal hand made individual pieces sold through Galleries, I have been able to accept commissions for work in a variety of mediums including Mosaics, Tile panels and Fountains – also Public Artworks such as Metalwork gates, Tree Grills, Plaques and Paving projects.

Apart from direct sales from my workshop, my main outlets are in London and the West Country.
