Artist, Designer
I make paintings and prints that are inspired by pattern, colour and subjects that have an emotional link to my life. I am a dreadful collector of ‘interesting’ objects and take much inspiration from living in such a beautiful area. I am fascinated by the way that paint laid on a surface can give the illusion of three dimensions and the theory of drawing has always been a great passion of mine. My quite traditional method of painting has been inspired by countless still life painters throughout the ages from the jewel-like Renaissance detail of Van Eyck and Bellini to vigorous and spontaneous works of contemporary artists like David Hockney and Lisa Milroy.
Throughout my career as a Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Art Teacher and Interior Designer I have spent much of my time trying to demystify visual culture, it is there for everyone to enjoy and should be accessible to all. No civilisation has ever existed without art. I would like to think that my work is simple, easy to understand and can be enjoyed purely for it’s representational value or as a mental prompt for times and places that any of us have experienced in our lives.
