My work is hand built predominantly in crank, a coarse heavily grogged clay body whose building qualities ably match my desire for scale and pace of making.
When engaged with clay I am absorbed by the immediate and responsive process, working instinctively with the energy of the surface and form.
Surface is integral and is built when the clay is still raw energized and at its most responsive. Colour is layered with slips drawn and scribed through directly into the body of the clay. Colour is mixed by eye using glaze and body stains added to base slips and second application glazes.
On attaining my Masters Degree in 2009 I have remained a resident artist of the Corsham Court Research Centre.
