VIVIEN AP RHYS PRYCE
Sculptor
My sculpture is based on the great tradition of figurative art. Human figures have been my main source of inspiration since I first modelled clay at school. When I went on to art college, life modelling and life drawing classes stimulated my interest in the human form and established the themes of many of my sculptures.
I enjoy expressing the relation between individuals in family groups, father and child, and mother and child sculptures. In the dance figures the sense of movement is all important and the viewer should be able to look at them from all sides.
The wonderfully diverse patterns and structures found in plant forms have also inspired me, and I have used them to create some of my fountains.
Each piece begins with modelling in clay or wax. Thereafter most of my work is cast into bronze.
My sculpture has been exhibited throughout my career in many galleries in London, the UK ,and abroad, and is in public and private collections. The Minoprio Fountain at the University of Exeter, and the Messel Fountain in the Rose Garden at Nymans Gardens, Sussex, were special commissions. Several portraits have been commissioned, including some for Madame Tussaud's.
